Albacore
The albacore (Thunnus alalunga) is a type of tuna in the family Scombridae. It is found in the open waters of all tropical and temperate oceans, and the Mediterranean Sea.

The principal market tunas consist of seven major species (albacore, bigeye, skipjack, yellowfin, and three species of bluefin).

The yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares (Bonnaterre, 1788), is a member of the family Scombridae which includes: albacore, bonito, mackerel and tuna.

MACKEREL, pelagic fishes, belonging to a small family, Scombridae, of which the tunny, bonito, albacore, and a few other tropical genera are members.

Another commonly eaten fish, albacore ("white") tuna has more mercury than canned light tuna. So, when choosing your two meals of fish and shellfish, you may eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) of albacore tuna per week.

It is one of the most commercially valuable fish on Earth, with the major markets focusing on albacore, bigeye, yellowfin and the 3 bluefin species. Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) is also an important component of the tuna market.

Health Watch: Due to their high position in the food chain and the subsequent accumulation of heavy metals from their diet, mercury levels can be relatively high in some of the larger species of tuna such as bluefin and albacore.

Several stocks of yellowfin and albacore tuna are overfished as well. In every ocean, policy makers are failing to adhere to the advice of their own scientists.
