The Ant Eater is a very interesting mammal. The body is narrow and the fur is gray overall with black and white along the shoulders. The hair is coarse and thick, longest on the tail. The head is elongated and tapers to a tubular mouth.

hybrid - A crossbred animal. The offspring of two different species.

The reindeer is a plant eater and eats a wide variety of vegetation. The mainstay of its diet are the lichens and tough grass that grows on the tundra. In the spring, the reindeer will graze the newly sprouted shoots of grass and shrubs.

Sloth bears are considered mymecophagists or "termite and ant eaters". They have special feeding modifications that allow them to be expert termite consumers. They use their long, curved claws to dig into deteriorating logs, blow the dust away and then suck up termites like a vacuum cleaner.

The white-tailed deer is an herbivore or plant eater. It follows well-used trails to its feeding areas. It feeds in the early morning hours and in the late afternoon. A deer's diet changes depending on its habitat and the season. It eats green plants in the spring and summer.

The muskrat is not really a rat, but it is a common herbivore (plant eater) of Minnesota's wetlands. The muskrat and its bigger cousin, the beaver, are the only mammals that actually build homes in the water. That is where they spend the winter and raise their young.

An ant eater instead crushes insects it consumes using hard growths found on the inside of its mouth, and its muscular stomach. Sand and small rocks have also been found in anteaters' stomachs, suggesting that these are ingested to aid digestion (possible gastroliths).

Diet: The ringtail possum is an herbivore (a plant eater) that eats leaves, fruit, and flowers in the trees at night. The common ringtail has adapted to eating toxic eucalyptus leaves; it can detoxify the poisons in this plant.

Horned lizards are unusual in that they are myrmecophagous - ant eaters - with blunt, noncuspid, peglike teeth for crushing prey. The diet of Phrynosoma taurus is 61% harvester ants, with the remainder comprised of other arthropods.

Food: omnivore (both meat and plant eater); earthworms are the main food; also beetles, slugs, wasp grubs, frogs, young rabbits and mice, fruit, bluebell bulbs.
