With a few exceptions, Coleoidea live short lives with rapid growth. Most of the energy extracted from their food is used for growing.

Blue-Ringed Octopus - Received from Lindsay Rhinesmith
Q: What is the blue-ringed octopus' genus & species?

It was from this region that the Greek Argonauts were said to have brought home the original pheasant stock to their own country. The name, "ring-necked," comes from the white ring or collar that surrounds the neck of the male.

the paper nautilus has a smaller and thinner protective shell with no air chambers, which the animal can leave behind when it wishes. To distinguish between this octopus and its shelled cousins, the paper nautilus is now properly called Argonauta.
