Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)) The life of the salmon happens between sea and freshwater.

 


Atlantic salmon are found in the Atlantic Ocean near the north-eastern coast of North America, and near Greenland, Iceland and the western coast of Europe. Adults migrate up rivers and streams to spawn. There are also landlocked populations.

Atlantic salmon and trout are found largely in European waters. Only the Atlantic salmon has a range that extends as far as north America.

Atlantic salmon are native to the North Atlantic Ocean and coastal rivers and can be found on both sides of the ocean including parts of Russia, Portugal, Iceland, and Greenland. In Canada and the U.S.

Atlantic salmon can be seen in the rivers of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick that drain into the Minas Basin and Chignecto Bay. After they go to sea, they remain in the Bay of Fundy.

The American species of Salmo were originally split by the Mississippi basin, and were represented in the east by the Atlantic salmon and in the west by the rainbow and cutthroat trouts.

Present Management
A. Regulations - There is no closed season for chinook salmon. The bag limit is 5, or up to 5 when combined with coho, pink and Atlantic salmon. There is a minimum size limit of 10 in.
