Atlantic saury

Animals Atlantic SalmonAtlantic Sturgeon

Atlantic Saury Scomberesox saurus
Although not as thin as its needlefish relatives, the Atlantic saury has a similar narrow body and a long, beak-like snout lined with tiny teeth. The body is clear green above and bright silver on the sides.

What can you expect to see?
A large variety of gulls, many of the waterfowl, grebes, loons and Dovekies. Gannets and Bald Eagles congregate here for several weeks while the Needlefish (Atlantic Saury) are migrating.

Many small fish are consumed: Atlantic saury, horse mackerel, boarfish, and trumpetfish. This seabird forages over groups of feeding dolphin, tuna, and seals, to take fish and to scavenge.
