Ball pythons (Python regius) are found at the edges of the forest lands of Central and Western Africa. They are equally comfortable on the ground and in trees.

The Ball Python gets its name from its primary method of defense. When disturbed, the ball python will wrap itself up into a ball, protecting its head by hiding it in the middle of its coils.

Clown Ball Pythons
Clown ball pythons are so named because they have a comical face and pattern, reminiscent of a circus clown. This a recessive mutation, and has only been available for a few years.

Ball Pythons come in more " flavors" than any other boids being bred in captivity.........this is what makes them so popular and exciting.

Adult female ball pythons are larger than adult males. This sexual dimorphism is not present in neonates, but is apparent in adults. Adult females also have longer jaws than their male counterparts.

It is known in North America as the ball python because it will roll into a ball with its head tucked into the middle as a defence mechanism when it feels threatened; in Europe, it is better known as the royal python.
