Bantam Chicken
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Bantams are among the oldest known domestic animals. The Silkie is said to have been domesticated 4,000 years ago. Marco Polo describes it in his travel log. It arrived in China from Tibet.

Black Cochin Bantams are very gentle, are excellent sitters and lay lots of eggs. They have great mothering skills and are often used as 'foster moms' for other breeds of poultry.

Not endangered or threatened.

The Silkie bantam comes in 10 varieties and 5 colors. The average body weight is 28 ounces for females and 35 ounces for males. Their flight capacity is a maximum of 3 feet.

The eggs had been obtained from the fields, and were hatched under a Bantam hen. By confining the young with their foster-mother for a few days, they soon learned to follow her like young chickens.

There are also miniature varieties called bantams. Two popular breeds of bantam chicken are the Chinese silkie chicken which has feathers that are fluffy and look more like fur or the frizzle breed which has curly feathering.

Smaller varieties of chicken (called bantams) like the Pekin bantam can weigh as little as 500g whilst larger birds such as the Dorking may weigh around 6kg.

I do not know if they are greater or lesser Cockatoo's.
When I went outside one of my half grown bantam chickens was missing.
Can anyone tell me, Do Cockatoo's pick up prey and take it away to eat?

All domestic forms of chickens or bantams stem from this wild species which still occurs naturally in its native India.
