Carp - hardy freshwater fish, Cyprinus carpio, the largest member of the minnow family.

The Barbel have strong pharynegeal teeth (throat teeth) which they use to crush mussels, snail shells and crayfish. The Barbel breed in the early spring, and the eggs being shed in the weeds that grow in the gravel shallows.

Barbels are sensory projections near the nostrils and mouth of some sharks (e.g., the nurse shark). These barbels are whisker-like feelers used to taste and feel.

The long barbels of the catfish contain the taste buds of the catfish and so are often most commonly used for smelling and therefore sensing what is about to eat (and to hide from) in the surrounding waters.

They have barbels on the chin and neck. They have short tails, males' longer than the females'. Males' tails have a claw-like tip. Also known as "stinkpots", they can release a foul-smelling fluid.

Food varies from barbel to full grown buffalo. A crocodile can reach an age of up to 120 years and more. It also keeps on growing until its death.

The black bullhead has dark barbels like the brown bullhead, but is more uniformly dark rather than mottled. Anal fin rays total 15 to 21. Also, it has a light bar across the base of the tail.

Catfish can be easily recognized by the so-called "whiskers" (barbels) that give them their name. And most can also tolerate low-oxygen water. But beyond that, the 2,000+ species vary widely in shape, size, and habits.

Musk turtles have two light facial stripes beneath their eyes and small, tentacle-like sensory extensions known as barbels on their chins and throats.

underside of the head and body are bright yellow, yellow white, or bright white. The rear edge of its caudal fin may be rounded or nearly straight. The yellow bullhead is distinguished from the brown bullhead and black bullhead by its white barbels.
