The Barracuda is a large fish! It can grow to be over 5 feet long and weigh more than 100 pounds. Most barracudas are bluish-gray on their backs with silvery sides and a whitish belly.
Barracudas are ray-finned fishes noted for their large size (up to 1.8 m or 6 ft) and frightening appearance. The body is long, fairly compressed, and covered with small, smooth scales.
Barracuda are fast-moving predators with needle-sharp teeth and an undeserved reputation for ferocity. The great barracuda has a long, streamlined body with the second dorsal fin set far back near the tail.
Barracudas hunt more by sight than smell; a fact that may lead to unfortunate attacks on human divers. Barracudas are attracted to shiny objects, like the silvery fish they prey on.
Young barracuda live in bays, marinas and under the canopies of kelp forests. Juveniles and adults form thin schools near shore-sometimes over an area of many miles.
Sphyraena barracuda can be found almost in all warm seas. It is also found in tropical areas of the Pacific as well as of the Atlantic Ocean. It prefers water temperature about 75 degrees of Fahrenheit but can be also found in colder waters.
The great barracuda, Sphyraena barracuda (Edwards in Catesby, 1771), is a curious, fearsome-looking, usually solitary predator common to reefs and shallows of Florida and the Caribbean.

Diet
This species of shark feeds mainly upon fast moving fishes such as tuna, barracuda and white marlin. However it also consumes squid, turtles, seabirds and even garbage that has been disposed of at sea.

Cubera snappers are certainly able to hold their own but these predators do become prey for larger animals, including sharks, moray eels, and barracuda.
The perch-like fishes (Perciformes) is an order of ray-finned fishes, typified by the perch. It contains the largest number of species of any vertebrate order. Fish as diverse as gobies, barracudas and remoras are in this group.
Predators of the spotted seatrout include alligator gar, striped bass, Atlantic croaker, tarpon and barracuda. Spotted seatrout swim near seagrass beds of shallow bays and estuaries during spring and summer, looking for prey.
