The big cats include the tiger, lion, leopard, jaguar, puma and cheetah. The biggest and most magnificent of all the cats is the Siberian tiger, which is more than three metres long and weighs 270 - 320kg.
The big cat seemed indifferent to my efforts, but a half-hour later, when I passed his cage again, he greeted me with the unique mountain lion screech. I paused, and he screeched again.

The big cats, especially the spotted cats, are easy to confuse for those who see them in captivity or in photographs. The leopard is closely related to, and appears very similar to, the jaguar; it is less often confused with the cheetah.
Other big cats like leopards, jaguars and cheetahs have spots that help them blend into their environment. Their spots work the same way the tiger's stripes do.

Of all the big cats, cheetahs have the least strength. As a result, cheetah cubs are killed by larger predators like the lion and hyena. Up to 80% of the cubs are killed by lions. The cheetah compensates for this by having many offspring.
Of all the big cats, jaguars are the least studied. While some tidbits of information do come from examining jaguars in the wild, most of what is known about the creatures has been learned by studying captive animals.
Note that for big cats, another strip of fire hose should be used as a sheath to hide the chain to protect their teeth.
