Black Guillemots generally feed near shore, diving to the sea bed where they probe for fish and invertebrates among rocky recesses and vegetation in the shallow water.

Black Guillemots breed, usually in colonies, along rocky shores on coastal cliffs and at their base amongst boulders. They also uses artificial sites such as holes in breakwaters. The nest is just a cup of small stones.
