The Black Kingsnake is shiny black in color. It is marked with a rather faint chainlike pattern, which is made up of small white or yellowish spots. Some individuals are almost plain black.
Mexican Black Kingsnake Lampropeltis getula nigrita The mainland Mexico variety of getulus. The "Poor man's Indigo snake." Heavy bodied shiny black. The "best" ones are pure black with no traces of yellow spots.

Black Kingsnake Lampropeltis getula nigra. Fairly common above Fall Line Hills in northern Alabama. Similar in habits to eastern and speckled kingsnakes, but apparently has not declined to extent of Coastal Plain forms of L. getula.
