Texas Blind Snake (Leptotyphlops dulcis)
Description: Adults 9" to 12" in length. Color dark brown, light brown, or pinkish. Somewhat resemble earthworms. Eyes vestigial, appearing as black spots only. No enlarged scales on underside of body.

The Brahminy Blind Snake looks somewhat like an earthworm. The adult is shiny and dark brown to grayish black in color with a somewhat lighter lower surface. The lower lips, chin, throat and tip of tail may be yellow to white.

Squamates are a monophyletic group that is a sister group to the tuatara. The squamates and tuatara together are a sister group to crocodiles and birds, the extant archosaurs.

SIZE:
Brahminy blind snakes are the smallest snake at two inches in length. The anaconda can reach lengths of 38 feet.
LIFESPAN:
In captivity, some species will live as long as 50 years.

: They mainly eat soft-bodied insects but will also consume spiders, centipedes, western blind snakes, lizards (such as the desert whiptail)…even other scorpions.

The Elf Owl is tolerated because it has the amazing habit of catching Western Blind snakes and bringing them alive back to the nest. The snakes are insectivores so benefit by having a cosy home and free food in the form of avian parasites.

The neurotoxic effects of its potent venom cause rapid paralysis and respiratory failure among its favorite cold-blooded prey, snakes and lizards. It prefers tiny blind snakes throughout its range, but will eat shovel-nosed snakes, ...

The adults will sometimes bring a live Blind Snake back to the nest. The snake does not appear to bother the young, but instead cleans up any uneaten food or insects living in the nest, reducing parasites and keeping the nest clean.

This includes the Red-eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) which has been documented as breeding in some areas of the state and the Braminy Blind Snake (Ramphotyphlops braminus) which has been found at three sites in the North End of Boston ...
