Blue and Gold Macaw: Its biological name is 'ara ararauna'. It is blue and yellow in color, that is why, it is also called blue and yellow macaw. It is mostly found in the tropical South America.
: Also known as the blue and gold macaw, this bird has very striking colours, being mainly a very bright blue on top and yellow-orange underneath. The upper part of the body including the back, upper wings and upper tail feathers are a brilliant blue.
Even the most well cared for blue and gold macaw will "scream" and make other loud noises. Loud vocalizations and destructive chewing are natural parts of their behavior and should be expected in captivity.
Blue and Gold Macaws and Green-Wing Macaws are said to make the best pets. Macaws must have daily attention or the birds may become bored, distressed, anti-social and destructive.
Only the Blue and Gold Macaw isn´t listed at CITES as endareged specie in the wild. The Spix's Macaw has only seven surviving specimens in captivity and, as well as the Glaucous Macaw, it´s probably extinct in the wild.
This species was unknown to aviculture until the 1970s and still today a limited number of ornithologists are unsure if it is truly a separate species, but rather a subspecies of the blue and gold macaw (Ara ararauna). 2.
