Bluets live in and near sandy ponds, lakes, and swamps along the eastern coast of the USA. They also like pine-forest regions close to water. Adult bluets eat other small, soft insects while the young eat water bugs.

Like bluets in general, the male Alkali Bluet is all blue and black. He sports medium width black bands on his first three abdominal segments followed by two longer ones.

The Bluetail Mole Skink, Eumeces egregius lividus, is found only in the highland ridge area of central Florida where much of its habitat has been cleared. Most adults grow to 6.5" and maintain their blue tails, though some become salmon pink.

I find my Bluethroat to be the sweetest next to my Hyacinth. He absolutely loves to cuddle and will go to anyone. He does not have a preferred companion and loves to spend time equally with both my husband and I.

"Ticked" varieties may be either white or black with different colored spots ("ticking"), such as the bluetick beagle, which has spots that appear to be a midnight-blue color, similar to the Bluetick Coonhound.
