Common Grackle smaller, with shorter tail and more restricted purple.
Great-tailed Grackle is very similar, but tail is a little longer and head is flatter; voice is different.

The Boat-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus major) is quite similar in appearance to the Great-tailed Grackle. The Boat-tailed, however, typically prefers more marshy habitats and has different vocalizations.

Boat-tailed Grackles are permanent residents along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of the United States, from mid-Texas to Virginia. Breeding populations reach Long Island, New York. These grackles also occur across the Florida peninsula.

Boat-tailed Grackle can be told from Great-tailed grackle by the color of the eye. The Boat-tailed Grackles of the Gulf Coast have dark eyes while the Great-tailed Grackles of the Gulf Coast have bright yellow eyes.

Conservation Status: Expanding in range and numbers.
Bird Feeders: Will attend feeders for various seeds and nuts.

The two common species most similar to the Common Grackle are Brewer's Blackbird and the Boat-tailed Grackle. The Brewer's Blackbird is also all black with a purple iridescence, but it has a shorter tail and bill.
