The song of the Boreal Chorus Frog has been likened to the sound of a man running his thumb along the teeth of a plastic comb.

 


The boreal chorus frog is a small, smooth skinned tree frog. They have long bodies, short legs and webbing that are only on the base of their toes. Its colours can be green-gray to brown. The maximum adult size is just under 4 cm! ...

The western chorus frog and boreal chorus frog are described as two individual species in some references, and as subspecies in others. Their individual ranges in the state are not clearly known.

triseriata, and the boreal chorus frog, P.t. maculata. Some consider the boreal chorus frog a separate species. These two are reported to intergrade (or hybridize) in central and southwestern Minnesota.

NOTES: One of the first species to call in the spring. The Boreal Chorus Frog, Pseudacris triseriata maculata, is similar in appearance but occurs only on Isle Royale.
