Also known as river bream and redbellies, these are the flowing water cousins of bluegill. Redbellies often can be found in backwater areas with less flow, especially where there are sandy bottoms.

Throughout the southern US all sunfish are referred to as bream or brim because early American settlers thought they resembled a flat-bodied European species called a bream.

It may also be called bream, brim, pond perch or some other common name depending upon where it is caught in the United States. Whatever it is called, the bluegill's flesh is firm, well-flavored and highly prized by many anglers.

The Atlantic hump-backed dolphin, Sousa teuszii, feeds on schooling fish such as herrings, sea breams, sardines, and mullet. When feeding in groups, they herd their prey close to land, which decreases the ability for prey to escape.

The Silver Perch (classified by scientists as Bidyanus bidyanus) is also known as the Murray Perch, Grunter, or Black Bream. It is mostly silver in color with yellow fin-tips.

A. The longeared sunfish (Lepomis megalotis) is a freshwater fish. It is also known as "Cheery Bream", and lives in freshwater areas west of the Appalachian Mountains, as far North as Quebec, and as far South as North Central Mexico.

The bream is a common fish in these waters. It was formerly of lesser regard, but is now gaining in value.
