The brown booby is a superb diver. It is the most widespread booby and has distinct color variations. Most brown boobies are brown all over, apart from a white underside.

Status One record. It was found more or less stranded on a rocky ledge known as the Salvages, at Blanche, Shelburne County on 28 July 1941 by Albert Dixon Summers.

The brown booby is around half the size of the blue-footed booby and is found in the Caribbean Sea and in the Gulf Of Mexico. The brown booby has a black head and back and a white belly, short wings and a long tail.

Juvenile Brown Booby resembles juvenile Blue-footed Booby, but has darker chest and neck, and shows sharp cutoff between chest and belly.
Red-footed Booby has white back, a cleanly white or yellowish head, and a white tail.
