As the name of this animal already reveals us, the Australian Brush Turkey is located in Australia, mainly in its eastern part. This bird is approximately 70 cm long (28 in) and weighs over 1.7 kg (3.6 lb).

 


Brush Turkeys, and other Megapodes, build large mounds of decaying plant material and bury their eggs within it.

Also similar are Brush Turkeys, Alectura lathami, whose nests are similar in size to a Malleefowl. Less evolved species such as the Moluccan Megapode, Eulipoa wallacei, simply dig a hole in the soil, lay the eggs and then cover them up.

The female wild dragons will utilize the nest mound of a brush turkey in which she will lay a clutch of up to 30 eggs. Hatchlings are about 15 inches (40 centimeters) and weigh 3.5 ounces (100 g.).
