Bryozoa
Related Category: Zoology: Invertebrates
(br´´z´), name of a phylum, in older systems of classification, that included the invertebrate animals now classified in the phyla Entoprocta and Ectoprocta.

Bryozoans possess a unique feeding structure called a lophophore. The lophophore is a U-shaped or circular ring of ciliated tentacles used for filter feeding.

Pink lace bryozoan colonies feel hard and brittle to the touch because the walls of the individual zooids are reinforced with calcareous material. The colony is shaped like curly-edged potato chips with a lacework of small holes.

Sponges, algae, bryozoans, zooantharians, gorgonians, and tunicates
INCUBATION:
Species exhibits dioecism. Fertilization is external. Species is open water/substratum egg scatterer. Spawning primarily occurs in late summer.

All known nudibranchs are grazing carnivores and as a whole they feed on a wide variety of animals including sponges, hydroids, tunicates, anemones, corals, sea pens, bryozoans, barnacles, and sometimes other nudibranchs! ...

the Polyzoa or Bryozoa, which has been both added to and again removed from the Mollusca between Cuvier's date and the present day. The name of J. Vaughan Thompson is again that which is primarily connected with the history of a Molluscan class.

Another meaning refers to organisms, such as bryozoans, which are composed of numerous genetically identical modules (also referred to as zooids or 'individuals'), which are produced by budding and remain physiologically connected.

Feeds on sponges, algae, bryozoans, zoantharians, gorgonians, and tunicates.
Life History
Spawning pairs are strongly territorial, with usually both members vigorously defend their areas against neighboring pairs.

Echinoids graze on just about anything they come across, plant or animal. This includes algae, bryozoans, and dead animals.

lophophore -- Complex ring of hollow tentacles used as a feeding organ. The tentacles are covered by cilia, which generate a current to bring food particles into the mouth. The structure is only found in the brachiopods, phoronids, and bryozoans.

the large, beautiful Gulfweed Swimming Crab - a relative of the Blue Crab. There are flatworms and mollusks known as nudibranchs. Even the fronds are covered with small, plant-like creatures called hydroids and encrusting animals called bryozoans.
