Buntings
The buntings of Europe, Asia and Africa are related to American sparrows. They are rather finch-like but have differently-structured bills, slightly flatter heads and longer bodies, and many have longer tails with white sides.

Appearance:
Painted buntings are medium-sized and gloriously colored: males are blue, red, yellow and green, females a greenish yellow.

The Lark Bunting (Calamospiza melanocorys) breeds in the grasslands of the western portions of the mid west region of the United States and parts of southern Canada.

Snow Buntings breed across the Arctic regions of the world, and they are migratory. In Canada, their appearance in the more southerly parts of the country heralds the approach of winter.

Lazuli buntings migrate north from Mexico in the spring and they spend their summers in the western United States.

The Snow Bunting is a small, pale-brown-and-white bird usually found in winter by the ocean, lakes, and rivers shores, grassy fields or roadsides in North America, Alaska and northern Canada. Its breeding plumage is brilliant white and black.
