The Chinese Painted Quails - also known as buttonquails - (Coturnix chinensis, formerly Excalfactoria chinensis) resemble, but are unrelated to the true quails.

The Old World buttonquails are also in a different family Turnicidae, and are not true quails.

On the road on the way in I saw a Painted Buttonquail and Emu.
The campground was full of Crimson Corellas right out on the lawn. This certainly wasn't a new bird, but it was the best photograph I got of the bird.

The endemics include fynbos specials such as Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Sugarbird, Cape Siskin, Protea Seedeater and Hottentot Buttonquail. Cape Rockjumper is found on the craggy mountainsides.
