CABBAGE WHITE BUTTERFLY
The cabbage butterfly (or cabbage butterfly), Pieris rapae, is a white butterfly with a black body. The two upper wings have black bands on the upper margins. Each wing has a black spot in its center. It has a 1.3-1.
Similar Species Cabbage White virtually always has gray FW tips and black sex spots on FW and lacks dark-dusted veins below. West Virginia White has smokier, diffused vein-scaling, rounder FW tips, and lacks yellowish tint to HW below.
These sulphurs are a whitish color in fall and can easily be confused with the cabbage white but note the white "eyespot" on the underside of the hind wing.
