Cuvier's dwarf caiman, Paleosuchus palpebrosus, is the smallest member of the order Crocodylia.

The dwarf caiman may be the smallest of the crocodilians, but its bony armor underneath as well as on top make up for its size. Tough belly plates reduce injuries from predators and rocky debris along the river bottom.

Crocodiles and alligators, along with caiman and gharials, are part of a group of reptiles known as crocodilians. There are 23 species of crocodilians found in over 90 countries around the world.

The common or spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus) looks more like the American crocodile than the American alligator. Its color is similar to the crocodile's but with a shorter more rounded snout.

Crocodilians (Crocodilia) are a group of large reptiles that includes crocodiles, alligators, caimans and the gharial. Crocodilians are semi-aquatic predators that have changed little since the time of the dinosaurs.

Anacondas feed on aquatic and amphibious animals, including mammals, fish, caiman, birds, ducks, and turtles. There have been a few reports of cannibalism involving green anaconda females preying upon anaconda males.

Green anacondas feed on a variety of animals such as rodents, birds, fish, turtles and caiman. Capybaras, who escape from predators such as jaguars by running into the water, are perfect meals for anacondas.

They reach their monumental size on a diet of wild pigs, deer, birds, turtles, capybara, caimans, and even jaguars. Anacondas are nonvenomous constrictors, coiling their muscular bodies around captured prey and squeezing until the animal asphyxiates.

Although the American alligator is secure, some related animals -- such as several species of crocodiles and caimans -- are still in trouble.

The evening activity was a hike to the river to look for caimans. Since I had seen several caimans on the boat trip and was very tired from the long trip, I passed on this opportunity and went to bed early.

There are three groups (families) of crocodilians: the alligatoridae, which includes the alligator and the caimans; the crocodylidae, which includes the "true" crocodiles; and the gavialidae, which contains only the gharial.

Crocodilians (crocodiles, alligators, gavials and caimans) account for 23 species, including the world's largest reptile, the saltwater crocodile.

Man is the adult boa constrictor's only enemy. However, young boa constrictors are preyed upon by a large variety of forest-dwelling animals such as coatis, hawks, caimans, and wild pigs.

Very capable swimmers, they also sometimes hunt along watercourses, taking prey such as caiman, turtles, and fish. The home range of a Jaguar varies from 10-170 square km.
