The California Gull (Larus californicus) is a medium-sized gull with a length of 17 inches and a wingspan of 52 inches. It is slightly smaller than the Herring Gull, but resembles it in all plumages.

California gulls are North American birds. They are found in regions of Mexico, the west coast of the United States, the Great Plains, and western Canada.

California Gull - Larus californicus. We watched a large group of them at the south end of Lake Merced, near the bridge. Leg colors varied from dull gray to a fairly bright yellow.
