Description
The Canada Goose is a large goose with a black head and long black neck with broad white chinstrap. The back is brown and breast is pale tan or cream. It has white rump and black tail. The legs and bill black.

Canada Goose feeding patterns change over the course of a year. In spring, they are often found grazing in grass or sedge habitats, or along aquatic edges. In migration and winter, they depend more upon high-carbohydrate foods.

The Canada Goose is from the order Anseriformes. Anseriformes are birds, with over 150 species belonging to this order. The majority of these are waterfowl such as ducks, geese, screamers and swans.

The Canada Goose is a common North American goose. It makes a loud, honking sound.

Canada goose hunting is a traditional sport. Blinds, pits, decoys, retrieving dogs, marshes, corn stubble fields, goose calls, magnum shotguns, frosty dawns, sleet, snow and good friends are all a part of it.

The Canada Goose is a widely-recognized national symbol and is readily identified up close or flying swiftly in V-formation during migration. Its familiar call is a harsh, nasal Ka-ronk.

The giant Canada goose eats roots, seeds, shoots, grain, and berries. In ponds, they eat plants off the bottom with their tail and back end in the air!

A few years ago, while I was working in the Beyond the Rainbow office, a Canada goose landed in my back yard. It appeared to be in some distress, pacing around, flapping its wings, and honking.

Other species that nested in both years were American Coot, Canada Goose, and Pied-billed Grebe. Species richness was significantly and positively related to wetland area in both years.

It is not clear exactly how long the average Canada goose can live, but there have been two geese that were reported to have lived very long lives. One of them lived to be 24 years old and another reached 23.

The Cackling Goose was a subspecies of the Canada Goose, but it was decided by the American Birding
Association in July 2004 that the Cackling Goose should be listed as a separate species.

The two most widely known species of goose are the Canada goose and the Domestic goose (or Grey goose).

Similar to the Canada Goose, the Nene is about 24 inches long, the Canada being larger at 30 inches. The head is black with buff cheeks and neck. The voice is also similar to the Canada goose, the most recognizable sound being a loud honk.

The once nearly extinct giant Canada goose (Branta canadensis maxima) has experienced population explosions in areas throughout North America.

larger subspecies, the body is a light gray tone. Underneath, the colors are much lighter and almost white on the tail. During flight the tail shows a white semi-circle just above the black tail. These color patterns are unique to the Canada Goose.
