Carolina Wrens are non-migratory and are generally found in the southeastern United States. They range from southern Ontario, Canada, and southward into Mexico and parts of Central America. They are slowly expanding north and westward.

Carolina Wrens nest in tree cavities, old boots, nest boxes, hanging baskets ... whatever catches their fancy.
Wrens prefer areas with dense shrubbery and are also attracted to brush piles.

Habitats of the Carolina Wren include brushy areas usually near deciduous forests, but these birds are highly adaptable, using residential areas with available dense shrubby areas.

Bluebirds are cavity nesters and they must compete for these choice spots with native birds such as chickadees, tufted titmice, nuthatches and Carolina wrens, and non-native birds such as house sparrows and European starlings.

While similar in appearance to the Carolina Wren, it has a long tail that is tipped in white. The song is loud and melodious, much like the song of other wrens.

Interesting bird! With its tail up and its curved beak it reminds of a wren, specifically the Carolina Wren. But it's probably just coincidence, or convergent evolution?

Both male and female often destroy eggs of other House Wrens and of other species nesting nearby; this behavior is inhibited while birds are tending their own eggs. Carolina Wrens, House Sparrows, and European Starlings compete for nest holes.
