Cave Salamander

DESCRIPTION: 4 7/8-7 1/8" (12.5-18.1 cm). Slender, long-tailed brook salamander. Dull yellow to bright orange above; scattered black spots sometimes form 2 or 3 longitudinal rows. Belly yellowish and unspotted.

The Georgia Blind Salamander or Southeastern Blind Cave Salamander, Haediotriton wallacei, is found in clear water in caves where bats are present near the Georgia border. It has no eyes or pigment.

The olm (also known as the proteus or the cave salamander) is a blind amphibian exclusively found in the underwater caves of southern European lakes and rivers. The olm is also known as the human fish, which refers to the colour of it's skin.
