About Chamois
A chamois can run up almost sheer rock on its nonslip hooves, jumping from ledge to ledge. It runs downhill dropping up to 20 ft. (6m) in a single leap. Even very young chamois can make death-defying leaps.

Diet
Their main prey are small ungulates such as musk deer, chamois and roe deer, but when favoured prey are scarce they will also hunt small hares, woodchucks and foxes.

It belongs to the subfamily Caprinae, along with thirty-two other species including true goats, sheep, the chamois and the musk ox. The mountain goat is the only species in the genus Oreamnos.

The Name "Oryx": "Oryx" comes from the Greek word "orux," meaning "pick-axe" (horns). "Gemsbok" is the Afrikaans (South African Dutch) word for the animal meaning "chamois buck.

Sheep contribute to even more products, including the following: lanolin, a key ingredient in lubricants and lotions; leather and chamois cloths used to polish cars; and lambskin clothing.

Its manners very much resemble those of the chamois of the European Alps; it is as vigilant, wild, and timid.

The name oryx originated from Greek and refers to horns like pick-handles; were as the name 'gems' is a Dutch term used for the chamois antelope Rupicapra rupicapra of Europe, which has little resemblance to the gemsbok. ...
