However, there are shore crabs, hermit crabs, and sea anemones, and lots of small chitons in depressions in the sandstone rocks. I once observed a small, brightly colored fish in a tide pool at this location.

WINGS
Butterflies and moths have four wings. The wings are made of two chitonous layers (membranes) that are nourished and supported by tubular veins.

WINGSPAN
Wingspan is the distance measured across a butterfly's (or moth's) wings.

At their coastal home they use their stubby bills to pry invertebrates such as snails, limpets, crabs, chitons, and mussels from the rocks during the winter months. In the late winter months they feed on herring spawn in large congregations.
