According to WCS, "Colorado river toads are found in the northern parts of Mexico, the southern parts of Arizona and New Mexico, and the southeast corner of California.

This huge toad survives in one of the places where you would least expect to find amphibians -- the desert. It does this by spending most days deep underground and venturing into the desert at night to feed.

Some "psychoactive toads" such as the Colorado River Toad Bufo alvaris, have been used recreationally for the effects of the bufotoxin, by either smoking their skin secretions or eating boiled toads.
