The Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium to large bird of prey, whose range covers most of Europe and extends into Asia.

The Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a bird of prey, whose range covers most of Europe and extends into Asia. It is typically between 51-57 cm in length with a 110 to 130 cm wingspan, making it a medium-sized raptor.

A bird of prey very similar to the much more common buzzard, though only a small number spend winter in the UK. It has the habit of 'hanging' in the air while looking for prey, hovering much more regularly than common buzzards.

Tawny owls are preyed on by larger birds such as northern goshawks, common buzzards, and other species of owls, such as Ural and eagle owls.

As a matter of fact, this is something I've worked on for a while as RT has been found in Europe once or twice now.

Distinguishing Features - A small eagle, about the size of the Common Buzzard Buteo buteo. In its pale phase the adults have brownish-black flight feathers contrasting with white under side.

A short walk takes you to the cliff overlooking the beach and to a bird hide on a small pond. One day I wandered on the cliffs where I had a flock of 7 Cliff Chough, 15 Oystercatchers, Gannets, Common Buzzard, Kestrel, Stonechat.
