Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas)
The Common Yellowthroat breeds from Canada to southern Mexico and winters in southern USA, Central America and the West Indies. It is found in swamps, marshes and gardens.

Geothlypis trichas
The Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas) is a widespread warbler across most of North America, breeding from Mexico to Alaska.

Common Yellowthroats are one of the most widespread and common warblers, and one of a handful that breeds in South Dakota.

Common Yellowthroats are medium-sized, chunky warblers with rounded wings, blackish bills, and pink legs. Their posture, plump shape, and cocked tails can make them look like wrens. On average, the Common Yellowthroat weighs .

The adult male Common Yellowthroat is instantly recognizable with its black mask. Immature males often have a semblance of the mask.
