Two major genera make up the general category of conures where more than 50 individual bird species are grouped: Aratingas (the louder, more boisterous species) and Pyrrhura (more demure, often smaller species).
Conures are a smaller version of the macaw and are found in many sizes and colors. In nature the conures live in flocks or family groups and are very friendly and peaceful birds.

The sexes of the Sun Conure look alike. The body is yellow, tinged with orange on the forehead, cheeks, neck, breast and abdomen.
