Cow sharks represent a very ancient group of sharks. All species have either 6 or 7 pairs of gills.

 


COW SHARK
The cow shark (Notorynchus cepedianus), also known as the broadnose sevengill shark, the broad snout shark, the ground shark, and the spotted sevengill shark ,is a distinctive and rare shark that has seven gills (most sharks have five).

Description To 16' (4.8 m). Elongated. Gray. 1 dorsal fin, located far back; pelvic fins far back, near anal fin; tail fin's upper lobe long, swept-back, notched. No fin spines.
