Crab Spiders do resemble crabs in several ways. Their stout legs are held out to each side and the spider can move backwards, forwards or sideways like a crab. The second pair of legs is often longer and stouter then the other pairs.

Ghost Crab (Ocypode quadrata)

Fiddler Crab

Believe it or not, this hairy beast is really a crab!! The claws, legs and edge of the carapace are covered with many projections, which probably help to camouflage this animal in its habitat.

The horseshoe crab is a living fossil. It has been on the Earth some 220 million years, longer than dinosaurs. And it survives today almost identical to its ancient ancestors.

To accomplish the research, an experimental field approach will be used in which crab pots are set in tidal creeks having a marked population of diamondback terrapins to determine demographic features of terrapins caught.

If a leg is damaged, the crab can replace it by growing another. When the crab is ready to molt (shed its exoskeleton), a new leg appears. The new leg is smaller and it will take a few molts before the leg is back to its original size.

The figure of the crab in the plate was introduced on account of its singularly bright red colour, which, when the animal is boiled, changes to pale yellow.

Goldenrod Spiders and other members of the crab spider family like to sit and wait at the edge of an open flower and then grab insects as they land. The spider injects venom into the prey, which turns the prey's insides into liquid.

Probably one of the most common invertebrates enjoyed by all types of pet lovers is the popular hermit crab. Many other invertebrates along with the hermit crab are now becoming increasingly popular.
