Crab Spiders do not make webs but wander on the ground and amongst plants in search of prey. They are often spotted on flowers where they wait patiently for a nectar- or pollen-feeding insect to choose the unlucky flower to land on.

The Goldenrod Spider is a member of the crab spider family. It is about 1/2 an inch long. Female goldenrods are yellowish white with red streaks on either side of their short abdomen and a reddish-brown spot between the eyes.
Young animals may have colours different from the adults and many spiders have either a variable colour, such as the European Garden Spider and the Goldenrod Crab Spider, or show indistinct colouring.
