The Crested Tit is distributed in most of continental Europe and into the Ural mountains but only in the north of Scotland as far as the British Isles are concerned.

Crested tit
Crested tits are not as colourful as other tits, but have their identifying crests and black and white striped faces. They are characteristic birds of pinewoods and, as a pine plantation grows, so does its crested tit population.

The Juniper Titmouse barely overlaps in range with the Black-crested Titmouse. It can be distinguished by its lack of black crest, darker gray undersides, and lack of rusty in the flanks.

Within the United States, the Black-crested Titmouse (Baeolophus atricristatus) occurs mainly in southern and parts of western Texas. The species also occurs in northeast Mexico.

The Crested Tit only lives in woody areas. It prefers older pines and is therefore less common. If the crested Tit visits your garden it won't be very shy but it's also less forward than the three species already mentioned.
