The crocodile monitor is currently protected under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) agreement, but is not listed in the Endangered Species Act.

The Perentie (Varanus giganteus) is the largest monitor lizard or goanna native to Australia, and fourth largest lizard on earth, after the Komodo Dragon, crocodile monitor and the water monitor.

Base Camp for a look at a special educational exhibit, which posts field guide cards that name and describe each animal. Three of my personal favorites in this exhibit were the golden lion tamarinds, the fishing cat, and the crocodile monitor.
