Crowned Pigeon
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
The Victoria crowned pigeon, Goura victoria, and the Common crowned pigeon, Goura cristata, are the peacocks of the pigeon family. They are the largest surviving pigeons.

Common-crowned Pigeons, like all other pigeons and doves, produce a substance known as "crop milk". Shortly before the chick is due to hatch, the lining of the parent bird's crop begins to thicken.
The White-crowned Pigeon is frugivorous, feeding almost entirely on a wide array of fruit-bearing trees and shrubs.
The Victoria crowned pigeon stands 25 to 30 inches tall

White-crowned Pigeons, a threatened species, are found in the Keys and extreme south Florida. They nest on mangrove islands free of raccoons but may fly long distances to feed.
The Bahamas boast an impressive array of wild native doves including the Caribbean Dove and White-crowned Pigeon.
Other wild American species are the band-tailed, red-billed, and white-crowned pigeons, all of the genus Columba, and the reddish brown ground-doves (genus Columbina).

The genus Goura consists of three species of crowned pigeons. They are the largest members of the pigeon family. They are natives of New Guinea and a few surrounding islands.The three crowned pigeons are alike and replace each other geographically.

Crowned pigeons differ from other pigeons in having sixteen instead of twelve tail feathers, in the scaling of their legs, in lacking an oil gland and gall bladder, and in possessing the large, fan-shaped crest of erect lacy feathers.
