The Dideric Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx caprius) is also called Diderick Cuckoo or Diederick Cuckoo by some authors. The species is fairly common and widespread over much of Africa south of the desert regions.

Overview
The cuckoo is a dove-sized bird with blue grey upper parts, head and chest with dark barred white under parts. With their sleek body, long tail and pointed wings they are not unlike kestrels or sparrowhawks.

Occ parasitizes Black-billed Cuckoo, rarely other birds. Breeding often coincides with outbreaks of cicadas, tent caterpillars, etc.; prey abundance may lead to production of excess eggs and thus to brood parasitism. Young hatch asynchronously.

The Yellow-billed Cuckoo may be confused with the Black-billed Cuckoo. The Black-billed Cuckoo has a black bill, smaller white spots on the tail, and a red eye.

Synodontis Petricola, also known as the Even-Spotted Petricola or Cuckoo Synodontis, hail from the northern region of Lake Tanganyika. They are often confused with Synodontis Multipunctatis, which hail from the same African lake.

The Roadrunner or Ground Cuckoo, Geococcyx californianus, is a bird that lives in thorny scrub, sparse grasslands, and deserts of Mexico and the southwestern USA. The Roadrunner can run at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour (24 km per hour).

I was eager to at least add Jamaican Lizard Cuckoo, Jamaican Becard, or the more common Myiarchus flycatchers to my trip list but such was not my fate.

The Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) is a member of the Cuculidae (Cuckoo) family. It is a large, crested bird (20 to 24 inches) that prefers walking or running to flying. It can reach speeds of up to 17 mph.

They don't honk "Beep Beep!" And here's something interesting, Greater Roadrunners are in the "Cuculidae" family, which is latin for "old world cuckoos." I thought that Cuckoos just came in noisy clocks...

So we stop, and look, and sure enough it's a handsome Greater Roadrunner (Cuckoo family - Cuculidae). So we quietly exit the vehicles and set up our scopes to watch.

Dlinza Forest in Eshowe has a forest boardwalk that takes you into the canopy from there you can observe species such as Delegorgue's Pigeon, Grey Cuckooshrike, Crowned Eagle and Spotted Ground Thrush.
