Daddy Longlegs

Black-necked stilts are also called daddy longlegs, stilts and longshanks. Stilts' legs are longer in proportion to their bodies than any other bird except the flamingo. Stilts belong to the family Recurvirostridae which, in Latin, means "bent bill.
Arachnid, term for animals in the class including the scorpions, spiders, daddy longlegs, mites, and ticks, and certain other eight-legged land invertebrates.
Spiders and their close relatives are placed together in the Class Arachnida, which includes the scorpions, harvestmen or daddy longlegs, ticks and mites, and a few other less well known groups.
Ants, bees, aphids, flies, crane flies, snails, spiders, daddy longlegs, lace-winged flies, and caddisflies are also taken. Migrating thrushes eat many fruits, which may also be important on the wintering grounds.
