(drng´g), any of the insect-eating Old World birds of the family Dicruridae. Most species have black plumage with an iridescent purple or green shimmer and long, deeply forked tails.

Ashy Drongo (Dicrurus leucophaeus) is a widespread resident in India. Size: 29 cm Differentiated from Black Drongo by its reddish eyes and lack of white rictal spot.

Like other drongos, these feed mainly on insects but also feed on fruits and visit flowering trees for nectar. Having short legs, they sit upright and are often perched on high and exposed branches.

Spangled Drongo waits to visit the feeder at Cassowary House.
The Spotted Catbird is a very aggressive visitor to the feeders.
