Ancient Egyptians revered the scarab (dung beetle). They credited it with keeping the earth revolving like a giant ball of dung.

Dung beetles have a keen sense of smell that allows them to hone in on their favorite food and use specialized mouth parts to draw out moisture and nutrients from the waste.

Most Jerusalem crickets were taken June, most grasshoppers in July, and most dung beetles (Scarabaeinae) in August. Ground beetles (Carabidae) were taken in quantity throughout spring and summer [47].

Prey of leopard ranges from dung beetles to eland. In Namibia, leopards are known to prey on kudu calves, gemsbok calves, steenbok, duiker, game birds, dassies, baboons bat eared foxes and even cheetahs and any other abundant prey in the area.

Geotrupes stercorarius is a species of earth-boring dung beetle.
The beetle is up to 2.5 cm (1 in) long. The whole beetle is weakly lustrous and darkly colored, sometimes with a bluish sheen.

During the rainy season, bush babies eat mainly insects such as caterpillars & dung beetles, which they catch by pouncing on them. They are quick enough to catch mice & lizards. In addition, they raid birds' nests for eggs.

In Alberta, there are a number of dung beetles that might be found on the Prairie that belong to this impressive Beetle Family. Species that roll dung are known as Tumblebugs.

Sacred to some: Several species of the dung beetles, most notably Scarabaeus sacer (often referred to as "scarab"), enjoyed a sacred status among the ancient Egyptians, as the creatures were likened to the god Khepri.

Dung beetles bury the feces of these animals and lay their eggs in it. The hatching grubs feed on the feces. The buried feces also fertilize plants, which in turn feeds the gazelle and giraffe.

Cane Toads eat almost anything such as small lizards, frogs, birds, fish, mice, bees, worms, dung beetles, scarab beetles and even younger Cane Toads. They are also known to steal food from dogs and cats if their food dishes that are left outside.

The Burrowing Owl collects mammal dung and puts it in and around its burrow. The animal waste attracts dung beetles, which the owl then captures and eats.

In past centuries, sheep, cattle and ponies would have grazed the cliffs all year round, keeping vegetation short and open, providing perfect conditions for chough to find a supply of insects such as cranefly larvae, dung beetles and ants.
