The Eastern Racer occurs along the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers and their tributaries in southwestern Wisconsin. It occasionally turns up away from the rivers in savannah and barrens communities.
Northern raccoons (Procyon lotor), eastern racers (Coluber constrictor), and gray ratsnakes (Elaphe obsoleta spiloides) prey on eggs and nestlings [6,44,47].
Peeling old palm fronds away from the ground led me to discover two cute little ring-necked snakes on this pleasant Florida morning. This broke my snake string of seven straight Eastern Racers.
