Eastern Worm Snake (Carphophis amoenus amoenus) DESCRIPTION: The worm snake truly resembles a worm. It has a length of 7.5-11 in. (19-28 cm), the head is plain brown above, the belly is pink, and the head is pointed.
The Eastern Worm Snake is a very small, glossy brown-to-black snake that resembles an earthworm. Also, the belly of this snake is bright pink to reddish-pink. The tail is short and it tapers to a sharp tip.

Range and Habitat: Eastern worm snakes are found in the eastern U.S., from southern New England to central Georgia and west to the Mississippi River.
Known from most regions except portions of Coastal Plain, Piedmont, and Ridge and Valley. A secretive small woodland snake of mesic deciduous forest. Includes subspecies C. a. amoenus (Eastern worm snake) and C. a. helenae (midwest worm snake).
