Flathead Catfish
The Flathead Catfish is also called a 'mud cat' or a 'yellow cat'. It has a flat head and is mostly yellowish brown in color with a lighter yellow belly and black spots over its entire body.

Description
Native to the lower Great Lakes and Mississippi River Basin. Introduced into Arizona in 1940's. Back and sides mottled, dark-brown to yellow-brown; belly is yellowish-white.

Flathead Catfish:
Appearance:
A flat head, tiny eyes, squarish tail and protruding lower jaw distinguish flathead from other. They are yellow-brown, usually mottled above, with a creamy colored belly.

Flathead catfish love to hang out near sunken logs in the backwaters and pools of big, muddy, slow rivers. They are commonly found in the lower St. Croix, Mississippi and Minnesota rivers.

The blue catfish has a blue back, paler flanks and silver white body. The channel catfish is similar but its body color is overlaid with dark spots and blotches. The flathead catfish is a mottled brown color. The white catfish is silvery white.
