French angelfish, Pomacanthus paru (Bloch, 1787), are common, and are found throughout the Caribbean. Like other angelfishes and butterflyfishes, French angelfish have tall, narrow bodies.
French angelfish reproduce sexually by broadcast spawning. They do not change sex during their development and are thought to stay with their partner for life.
French angelfish exhibit apparently permanent, monogamous breeding pairs. During the spawning cycle, these pairs are highly territorial. 2. Juvenile form serves as a symbiotic cleaner fish, feeding on the ectoparasites of other fish species.
The French Angelfish is black with yellow scale tips and yellow around its eye. Both of these varieties can reach sizes up to 24 inches. The Rock Beauty is black with a yellow head, chest, and underbelly.
