Gars, also called garpikes, get their name from the Anglo-Saxon word for spear. They are long and tubular with an oversized, generally elongated snout, although the alligator gar has a short, wide, shovel-shaped bill.
The gar (also known as the garpike) is an elongated species of fish, generally found in freshwater habitats across North and Central America.
They mix well with non-territorial cichlids, armoured catfish, tinfoil barbs, garpike, and other robust but peaceful fish.
